2015 Grad Information

Dear Parents, Grads and guests,

There are a number of significant events that will take place in celebration of our graduates during the week of June 15 – 20.  The Scholarship and Bursary Awards evening will take place on Tuesday, June 16 in the Unchagah Hall.  The Awards Night will begin promptly at 7:00 pm.  We ask award recipients to dress in semi-formal attire for the evening.

The 2015 Graduation Ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm on Friday, June 19 and will take place at the Encana Events Center.  All grads are asked to be dressed in their gowns and ready for the group picture that will be taken at 6:00 pm.   Grads may choose to enter the Encana Events Centre at Door A (located at the South side of the building).   We have had upwards of 2500 people attend our graduation ceremony since we began holding the event at the Encana Events Centre.  Parents and guests should be aware that traffic heading into the Encana Events Centre on the evening of grad could be quite congested due to road construction on Highway 2.  We ask parents, grads and guests to refrain from parking in the Holiday Inn and Chances parking lots during our the graduation ceremony.

The Red Carpet Event opens the DCSS Prom each year.   We will begin the Red Carpet Event at 6:00 pm on Saturday, June 20th.  All grads should be parked in their designated parking space at the soccer park staging area no later than 5:20 pm.  Grads are asked to enter the soccer park from 116th ave.  No vehicle will be permitted in the staging area without the appropriate green parking ticket.    We will be providing water and other beverages for students and guests as they wait for their time to exit the staging area.

Dawson Creek Secondary School has applied for and been granted road closures for 122 Ave. and a portion of 4th St. during the Red Carpet Event.  A flagging company has been hired to ensure the road closures are followed.  Signage will be posted along 122nd avenue and 4th street asking the public to refrain from parking on the sides of the streets to allow vehicles connected to the event to move unencumbered.   The road closures will be in affect from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  We ask the motoring public to give yourself time in advance of our events to navigate the roads.

Thanking you in advance and we hope to see you out at the events this week.

DCSS Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament

The DCSS Senior Boys Basketball Team returned from provincials in Langley earlier this week.  The boys went 1 and 3 at the tournament and finished in 14th place.  The boys were awarded with the most sportsmanlike team at the AAA provincials.  This award is a great accomplishment and speaks to the character of the players on the team.  The boys were also awarded the most sportsmanlike team at the zone tournament in Fort St John.

The team did a fantastic job representing our school, town and region at the provincial championships and everyone in the DCSS community is very proud of their efforts this season.

A huge thank you to the community sponsors who stepped up and supported our boys on short notice.  Your support is greatly appreciated.
